Millet kelimesi T\u00fcrk diline Arap\u00e7adan ge\u00e7mi\u015ftir. Ancak, Arap\u00e7adaki millet anlam\u0131 ile bug\u00fcn anlad\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131z milletin anlam\u0131 ayn\u0131 de\u011fildir. Arap\u00e7adaki millet, din birli\u011fi \u00e7er\u00e7evesinde birbirlerine ba\u011fl\u0131 insan topluluklar\u0131n\u0131 ifade etmektedir.<\/p>\n

Bug\u00fcn Bat\u0131 dillerinde kabul g\u00f6ren modern anlamda milletin tarifi ise, Frans\u0131zca \u201cnation\u201d kelimesinin kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131 olarak ayn\u0131 k\u00f6kten, ayn\u0131 soydan gelen ve ortak ba\u011flar\u0131 olan insan toplulu\u011fu \u015feklindedir.\u00a0 Di\u011fer taraftan T\u00fcrklerde, milleti sosyal bir ger\u00e7ek olarak ilk defa analiz edenlerden,\u00a0 Ziya G\u00f6kalp\u2019 de milleti meydana getiren temel fakt\u00f6rlerin \u0131rk, kavim, co\u011frafya olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ifade etmi\u015f milletin; dilce ahlak\u00e7a ve g\u00fczellik duygusu bak\u0131m\u0131ndan m\u00fc\u015fterek olan, yani ayn\u0131 terbiyeyi alm\u0131\u015f fertlerden olu\u015fan topluluk oldu\u011funu belirtmi\u015ftir.<\/p>\n

Bir milletin meydana gelmesinde, toplumdaki fertlerin aras\u0131nda, k\u00fclt\u00fcr birli\u011fi, g\u00f6n\u00fcl birli\u011fi, \u00fclk\u00fc birli\u011fi, birlikte ya\u015fama ve ortak tarih \u015fuurunun var olmas\u0131 gerekmektedir. K\u0131sacas\u0131 milliyet\u00e7ilik ki\u015finin milletini sevmesi, milletine g\u00fcven duymas\u0131 ve onun varl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 kan\u0131yla can\u0131yla savunmas\u0131d\u0131r.<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrklerde millet ve milliyet kavramlar\u0131 \u00e7ok eski tarihlerden itibaren var olmu\u015ftur. Tarihte ilk defa T\u00fcrk boylar\u0131n\u0131 bir bayrak alt\u0131nda toplamay\u0131 ba\u015faran ve T\u00fcrk destanlar\u0131nda O\u011fuz Han olarak ge\u00e7en Mete ile birlikte T\u00fcrklerin milli birliklerini millet \u015fuuru i\u00e7erisinde kurduklar\u0131 bilinmektedir. Yine T\u00fcrk milliyet\u00e7ili\u011finin yaz\u0131ya d\u00f6k\u00fclm\u00fc\u015f belgeleri olarak kabul edebilece\u011fimiz Orhun abidelerinde de millet, milliyet\u00e7ilik hatta T\u00fcrk birli\u011fi fikrini a\u00e7\u0131k\u00e7a g\u00f6rmek m\u00fcmk\u00fcnd\u00fcr. Bu belgelerde\u00a0\u201cT\u00fcrk milleti yok olmas\u0131n diye, millet olsun diye babam \u0130lteri\u015f Ka\u011fan\u0131, anam il Bilge Hatun\u2019u Tanr\u0131 tepesinden tutup yukar\u0131 kald\u0131rm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u201d<\/em>\u00a0denilmektedir.\u00a0 \u201cT\u00fcrk milleti yok olmas\u0131n\u201d s\u00f6zleri yakla\u015f\u0131k 1300 y\u0131l \u00f6ncesinde de T\u00fcrklerde milliyet duygusunun var oldu\u011funun delilidir.\u00a0 Yine ayn\u0131 kitabelerde yer alan Bilge Ka\u011fan Yaz\u0131t\u0131 \u00a0\u201cEy T\u00fcrk O\u011fuz Beyleri! Bu s\u00f6z\u00fcm\u00fc iyi i\u015fitin! \u00dcstten g\u00f6k \u00e7\u00f6kmedik\u00e7e, alttan yer delinmedik\u00e7e biliniz ki, T\u00fcrk milleti, T\u00fcrk yurdu, T\u00fcrk devleti, T\u00fcrk t\u00f6resi bozulmaz. Ey \u00f6l\u00fcms\u00fcz T\u00fcrk milleti! Titre ve kendine d\u00f6n!\u201c<\/em>\u00a0denilmektedir. Bu hitapta T\u00fcrk milletinin d\u00fcnya var olduk\u00e7a ya\u015fayaca\u011f\u0131na olan inan\u00e7 a\u00e7\u0131k bir \u015fekilde ifade edilmektedir. T\u00fcrk tarih\u00ee a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli olan bu belgelerde \u015fu ilkeleri de a\u00e7\u0131k\u00e7a g\u00f6rmek m\u00fcmk\u00fcnd\u00fcr.<\/p>\n

Milliyet\u00e7ilik \u00fclkelerin istiklal temini ve ayn\u0131 zamanda demokratik idare tesisi gayretlerinin de kayna\u011f\u0131 hatta temel ta\u015f\u0131d\u0131r. Bu y\u00fczden T\u00fcrk Milli M\u00fccadelesi\u2019 nin milliyet\u00e7i \u00f6zelli\u011fini g\u00f6z ard\u0131 etmek imkans\u0131zd\u0131r. T\u00fcrk Milli M\u00fccadelesi\u2019ni, Bat\u0131 devletlerinin s\u00f6m\u00fcrgecilik ve kolonizasyon ihtiras\u0131na kar\u015f\u0131 do\u011fuda belirmi\u015f b\u00fcy\u00fck \u00e7apta milliyet\u00e7i bir hareket olarak de\u011ferlendirmek m\u00fcmk\u00fcnd\u00fcr.<\/p>\n

Milli M\u00fccadele T\u00fcrk milletinin yenilmez kuvvet ve iddialar\u0131n\u0131 g\u00f6stermektedir. Milliyet\u00e7ilik her millette oldu\u011fu gibi T\u00fcrk milleti i\u00e7in de ayakta durman\u0131n \u015fart\u0131 olmu\u015ftur. Nitekim milli m\u00fccadelede Tarihin belki de en zor \u015fartlar\u0131 i\u00e7erisinde T\u00fcrk halk\u0131n\u0131 kuvvetli d\u00fc\u015fmana kar\u015f\u0131 ayakta tutan ve m\u00fccadele ettiren azim ve inanc\u0131 bu milliyet\u00e7ilik ruhu i\u00e7erisinde de\u011ferlendirmek gerekir. Milli M\u00fccadele tarihi boyunca Birinci B\u00fcy\u00fck Millet Meclisi \u00e7a\u011fda\u015f anlamda milliyet\u00e7ili\u011fi \u00f6n planda tutmu\u015f tarihinin hi\u00e7bir g\u00fcn\u00fcnde, hi\u00e7bir karar\u0131nda \u0131rk\u00e7\u0131 bir uygulama yapmam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n

Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn liderli\u011finde h\u00fcnerle idare edilen \u00fclkenin ba\u011f\u0131ms\u0131zl\u0131k sava\u015f\u0131 di\u011fer t\u00fcm duygu ve idelojilerden farkl\u0131 olarak vatanseverlik, vatan\u0131 i\u015fgalcilere kar\u015f\u0131 korumak duygusunu i\u015fleyerek halk\u0131n deste\u011fini harekete ge\u00e7irmi\u015ftir.<\/p>\n

Cumhuriyetin bu ilk y\u0131llar\u0131ndaki milliyet\u00e7ilik anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131 ve Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn milliyet\u00e7ilik uygulamalar\u0131 \u00fczerinde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalarda bulunan \u00e7e\u015fitli ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar, bu anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131n temel \u00f6zelliklerini \u015fu \u015fekilde belirtmektedir:<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk Milleti’nin vatan\u0131na olan sevgisi ve ba\u011fl\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131 tarihsel bir ger\u00e7ektir ve milletimizi di\u011fer milletler aras\u0131nda \u00fcst\u00fcn k\u0131lan en asil \u00f6zelliklerden birisidir. Bununla birlikte her T\u00fcrk, milletinin menfaatlerini kendi menfaatlerinden, milletinin gelece\u011fini kendi gelece\u011finden \u00fcst\u00fcn tutan bir anlay\u0131\u015fa, derin bir millet sevgisine sahiptir. T\u00fcrklerin, di\u011fer t\u00fcm milletlere \u00f6rnek olmas\u0131 gereken vatan ve millet sevgisi, bize \u015fanl\u0131 tarihimizin en \u00f6nemli miraslar\u0131ndan birisidir ve T\u00fcrk Milleti i\u00e7in kutsal de\u011ferlerdir.<\/p>\n

“Bize milliyetperver derler. Fakat biz \u00f6yle milliyetperverleriz ki, bizimle te\u0163rik-i mesai eden b\u00fct\u00fcn milletlere h\u00fcrmet ve riayet ederiz. Onlar\u0131n b\u00fct\u00fcn milliyetlerinin icabat\u0131n\u0131 tan\u0131r\u0131z. Bizim milliyetperverli\u011fimiz herhalde hodbinane ve ma\u011frurane bir milliyetperverlik de\u011fildir.”<\/em><\/p>\n
